Claim your space!

It's an hour before readings and I am doing my usual bit of running through the house trying to make it as presentable as possible. I forego the usual emotional turmoil of looking at a sink full of dishes and instead concentrate on trying to get as much dog hair off the sofa as possible. As soon as I'm done Oscar sits right back where I just cleaned making sure to cover it once more with fluff. It's a daily stand off between us and he always wins. Then I get some incense and, starting at the front door I work clockwise around the house cleansing the space. I say a quiet chant under my breath and visualise any and all unsettled energy leaving my house through the opened windows. I go top to toe and end right back where I started. I then draw a protective symbol in smoke over the back of the door and go to my readings room to start my meditations. My house gets a lot of spiritual traffic. It's not just the spirits and their residue that I am cleansing but so many people in so many intense emotional situations pass through my home that I like to make sure there is no imprint left. Last week I sat on the sofa after a client had left and I hadn't closed down properly and within minutes I felt what they were feeling. They had left a little imprint in my home and I had sat right in the middle of it!

My home is different to most of yours in that it is also a place of business and for lack of a better word a place of spiritual connection. That doesn't mean though that your home doesn't need a good cleanse from time to time. I always do a little something extra on the full moon but you choose whatever time is most appropriate. Make it as part of your routine. You don't need to use incense, you can use crystals or a pendant or even just visualisation. Once client of mine visualises while she sweeps in the morning! The symbolic action isn't as important as the intention behind it. You are taking time to reclaim your space and to make sure that you are creating a safe space. When I left my last home I walked around each room spending real time cleansing the space as best I could. That last place was hugely transformational for me and it was the nucleus of my spiritual journey. I went room to room with incense and stones to bring with me all the energy that was meant for me and to disperse what was no longer needed. It's an important thing to do when you leave a home, to ensure you don't leave any pieces of you behind.

Any place that you have experienced an intense emotion can also be a place where you leave an imprint. This is actually the root cause of what most people call “hauntings”. It really is just energy that is translateable. Sometimes it is a haunting, sometimes a cross section in the time line but more often than not it's just a whole bunch of conjested energy. A good cleansing and it normally goes away. Now for most of you a good swish through the house once a week or once a fortnight is plenty, work with your instinct to see how often it needs. I do recommend that you do it though. Try my practices if you like, use an incense that you like or if you want to be more traditional any sage, sandalwood or myrrh will do! Use whatever feels right. Also, a little tip, if you are manifesting something in your life right now you can do a little sweep around the house with your desired energy. Lavender is a good one to attract love, patchouli is good for money and chamomile is a good herb to burn to promote peace. Play about with it and see what works. Your home is your sanctuary, your domain and your castle. You get to choose what lives in it's walls. Assert your presence there and be sure to keep hold of what is rightfully yours.
