Meditate daily.

Meditation is contemplation on bliss. It is the ability to completely absorb yourself into an altered state that can and often does open doors within your mind to a more peaceful and purposeful way of living. I began meditation way back when I was 14. I don't know how I knew how to do it, I just knew that I needed to quiet my mind. I didn't have any books and there was no internet then I just used to sit quietly, close my eyes and try to think of nothing. I was so earnest in my early approaches to meditation and I had so little to go on in terms of information to digest but I kept moving forward with it anyway. Eventually I did find books, new techniques and then at 16 I came across a few all important teachers who helped me to open my mind in ways that are still unfolding today. I need meditation to keep my mind level, it is an all important part of my daily routine. 15 minutes of mental silence, concentration on breathing, is all you really need to set you up for the day. I recommend it to everyone. I personally need a little more than that, some days, a lot more than that depending on what's happening in the world. Right now I've intensified my practice because the energy mapping of the world is a little intense and I want to make sure that I am keeping my energy clear.

Mediation is for everyone. In and of itself it's shown to have wonderful benefits in increasing clarity of thought, better decision making and creating emotional equilibrium. You don't need to become an enlightened master to bring meditation into your day you just need 15 minutes. I recommend that you start in the morning, the earlier you disable your brain chatter the better. I personally like to have music on in the background but I like to mix it up a little sometimes too. Meditation for me comes in many forms. I love watching the sea, painting, cuddling with my dog Oscar, anything that puts my mind in the space of quiet receptivity. I need it to function effectively and each time I stray from my practice I can feel the chaos of every day life start to interrupt what I do. Before readings I also need to do an extra meditation that is more guided for roughly 45 minutes, well maybe not NEED because I have been known to read on the spot in times of necessity but generally I prefer a good chunk of time to really soften the edges of my energy so that I am as receptive to spirit and information as possible.

Start a meditation practice this week. Set aside that 15 minutes in the morning to quiet your mind and just allow thoughts to pop up and then float away. After my meditation practice I write a poem. For me that's like a “primer” for my brain. Meditation cleans the canvas and poetry helps to wire my brain to think creatively so that no matter what challenge or puzzle arrives that day that I can think more creatively to solve it. This year I also added a little art to my morning routine which I'm finding is also helping me to see things a little differently too. I am priming my mind to look for inspiration wherever I am. But all of these are things you can add later if you feel like it. Begin with silence. Let it in. It will change the foundation of your day. The more you do it, the more benefit you will get. Make a choice to start or restart today.

Thank you,
