The importance of setting intentions.

I've been talking a lot recently about the ebb and flow of the Universe. There are times when you are called to sink into the delicious guidance that is all around you and then there are times when you take a more alpha role and define what it is that you want. To some degree we are doing both all of the time but I've found in my life that there seems to be definite times when one is more dominant than the other. You can call them goals, dreams, manifestations, the languaging isn't important but there is a definite advantage to having an intention when you start your day or any project for that matter. For instance, my intention with this blog is to provide a touchstone for those seeking gentle reminders that they are part of the bigger picture. I want to provide a space where people can gather and begin an inner dialogue about how they are approaching their lives and hopefully by seeing the light at the centre of it can make a change for themselves. My intention hasn't changed over the years for this website although I think I language it better now but it has grown into something more than I thought it would be. I always liked the idea of being a part of someone's daily routine and that's happening.

I've always been a goal orientated person. I drive Stuart crazy with my endless lists but they really do help me to get clear about what I am doing and where it is going. An intention for me is like an organising principle that helps me to get focussed. For instance I love writing songs but having a collection of songs without them becoming an album just seems too messy for me. The same with my books or my paintings. I like to leave room to experiment creatively of course but I like a goal in mind, an intention so that there is a beginning, a middle and an end. Once the project is finished then I gather a different intention as to what to do with it. Sometimes I know what I am going to do with a project long before it's even started and sometimes it's an evolution but still, each Sunday night I sit with my idea sheets and lists, my candles and my coffee and I sort out what I can get done. This is not about productivity, it's about clarity. My intention with my relationship is to express love, my intention with my home right now is to find a new house, my intention with my health is to get better food in my body. Not all intentions are career based but the second you make them, the second you declare them to yourself something interesing happens. The Universe listens!

We all know by now that the Universe loves to fall over itself to bring you the best version of what you are asking for. It rises to the level you set for yourself. An intention is a boundary that the Universe can play with. If my intentions are unclear then I find that what I bring to myself is also hit and miss. If I know what I want and am clear about it but not attached to it, then it or something on the same energetic level turns up instead. “To it's equivalent or better.” is a manifestational principle I live by. I don't have to get exactly what I am asking for but something just like it or something even better is just as fine with me! So as the retrograde now finally slips away and we are getting clear again why not use this time to set a few new intentions for yourself. How do you intend to feel? What do you want to create? Have a play. I feel the gentle encouragement of the Universe at the moment for us all to ask for the things that we want or need so why not set the intentions and see what happens?! Good luck, take your time and don't worry.
