The power of Envy

Envy is a powerful and an overwhelming energy that often brings with it shame and anger towards the self. We see it as some sort of flaw in the character of the soul of those who experience it. When we rid ourselves of the shame of it and stop hating ourselves for having an experience of it we can finally see it for what it is. FEAR. What you fear is that those people you are jealous of, those people you envy are braver than you. You fear that they have been more daring and created bigger, bolder and brighter lives than you could hope to achieve. You fear that you are powerless and less special. We use envy to create a whole host of self hating and inhibiting experiences, beliefs and emotional habits and the dangerous thing about envy is that we often keep them secret.

I want to break that bubble open. Over the years I have seen countless clients who have whispered to me about their jealousy and I have at points in my life been consumed by the emotion myself and also been on the receiving end of it, neither are pleasant. It doesn't help that our entire culture is geared towards making people feel like they should want what other people have, more money, a slender body, a shiny car, fame; but it is in the renouncing of that you free yourself from it. When you see jealousy for what it is, the fear of ownership of your current life, a judgement that the life you have is not good enough for you, an excuse to make yourself feel bad and more prominently FEAR of your ability to create the life you deserve; you give yourself the power to move through it and onto the next stage.

If there are people in your life right now that you envy change how you think about them. Imagine that they are gifts, letters from the universe to give you a deeper understanding of your desires. Are they showing you what you really desire? Are they giving you a road map to create that in your own life? Are they showing you qualities in yourself you want to create or release? Take time to free yourself from this feeling, release the shame of it, the only way out of it is through it.

Big Love
