Compassion is a gift.
Compassion is a true gift, one which I can see all over the world. I do not deny that ugly things happen but when they do I ALWAYS see the people around willing to help, to intervene, heal. I saw a picture today of a terrorist attack on a soldier and in that picture were two women trying to talk the attacker down even though he had a knife in his hands which was covered in blood. I have watched this week as teachers used their own bodies to protect their pupils from the ravages of a tornado. Compassion is everywhere.
While it is easy to get caught up in our “outrage obsessed” media culture and even though I have seen people use these events to perpetuate personal vendettas or racist agendas I have seen more and more people stand up against that and stand in their own truth. It is not the event that defines us but what we do afterwards. It's how deeply and how completely we surrender to our compassion that ultimately governs how deep and lasting the change comes. When we find our compassion, we root ourselves in the action of life's lessons.
Today make the decision not to lose yourself in the pain of the moment, lose yourself to the weight and strength of your compassion. Create as much of it in your life as you can. Create compassion wherever you go. Make it your sword and shield. Love as deeply as you can because lasting change is only ever born of love.
Big Love
