Aren't you tired yet of trying to fit in a billion and one things into your day? Me too! I've picked up a few neagtive habits over the years, one of them is running around like a headless chicken trying to get everything I want done. That's why I introduced my Sunday Pow Wow. It's an hour, sometimes longer of me sitting down and writing out what I can reasonably get done in the space of a week. I am meticulous about planning and I've managed to work out how to make the most of all the little spare half hours I get in between clients. I also schedule in time for relaxing, hobbies and do what I can to ensure everything revolves around self care. The reason I do it is to keep my life simple, to make sure that I am not investing my time in anything that isn't serving me. I know that I do a lot and I work a lot which makes me all the more passionate about using the time that I have to myself wisely. There's no point in complicating my life any more than it needs to be. This is how I get rid of the inessential in my life, it keeps things simple. Clutter in all forms is a manifestation of mental chaos and I just don't have the time for that. Whenever and wherever I find it I try to remove it.
Now that certainly doesn't mean that I am a neat freak. If you went in to my creative room you would often see piles of paint strewn all over the floor and canvases propped up where I hope that don't get damaged. It's ensuring I get time IN my creative room that is the clutter I'm talking about. I make a habit of making room for the things that still and uplift my mind. If we all did this it would make for an interesting time on the planet. It's surprising when you sit back and really break your life down into it's simplest components just how much of it is built up of unnecessary things. Or even if what we are doing is right for us we can often go about it in a cumbersome way. Why not strip things back? Why not get rid of anything that isn't making you feel great? Why not get rid of all “white noise” that is filling the gaps in your life and instead fill those gaps with something meaningful. I challenge you for a week, a whole week to take a notebook out with you and use it to draw, write down ideas, journal, plan. Now you might think at first that you don't have the time to do that but what if instead of looking at your phone you got your notebook out? What if instead of sitting down drinking your coffee and mindlessly scrolling through your notifications on facebook you got out your pen and paper and doodled instead?
We've lost the mystery and majesty of a wandering mind. We've lost those moments where we can sit down and passively injest the world around us. I write these moments into my life so that they don't get lost, because they ARE getting lost. I love to sit sometimes on a Thursday in a local coffee place and write and so often I see groups of friends sit down and check their phones for the entire duration of their coffee. They don't talk, they don't create, and it seems the younger the generation the worse it is. I've certaily been guilty of it right up until I realised that it was a complete waste of time. Social media is fun don't get me wrong but when it replaced time inside your own head then that's the point to course correct. Scedule in social media time, some in the morning and some in the evening. There really is no need to check your phone once every 12 seconds ( yes that's a real statistic ). Do things that keep your life simple. Do things that break your routine and keep you centred and in the space of your heart. Plan it out and see if you can make more room for you.
Thank you,
Big Love,
