Are you dealing with fear?

It's strange that human beings are so adaptable to their surroundings yet we prefer consistency. Considering that the essence of everything that we are is the momentum of change we do our best to fight against it don't we?! Like all of you I deal with this whenever I try to uplift my life to a new space. There is that part of the brain, the part that is rooted in survival that only wants what it can understand. Anything new, ANYTHING is treated as threat to our existance by this part of us. Even when I started writing books, making music, painting or when I try to do anything new within that structure that part of me shows up. It is truly ridiculous but that's a part of us we need to accept. Even when I was drawing out plans for a new childrens book that I'm working on there was a part of me that senses that I am in new territory and tried to shut it down. As if writing a kids book is going to kill me at some point. It's normal for this part of us to show up, we are all alive because of it but, it's not beneficial for us to listen to it all the time. Fear is a very real force in our lives and it needs to be respected. Respecting it doesn't always mean that it has to be obeyed though, discerning that is the job of a much newer part of our brains.

Some call it the monkey mind, the lizard brain, the ego. It's name doesn't matter for this blog but how you relate to it does. Fear is not a bad thing. It serves it's purpose in keeping us here. Without it we might end up playing in traffic as kids or investing in all sorts of behaviours that harm us. But fear also needs to be tempered. There are points when fear will stop you doing something that will ultimitely benefit you because it doesn't know that it will benefit you. It doesn't have the understanding, the capacity for foresight. All fear knows is where you have been and what has hurt you. It is instinctive. Reactive. It is up to us to balance it out in our lives. If I was about to go and jump off a cliff I would hope that fear would let me know that it might not be such a good idea but, when I am creating something new, that's when I can tell fear to sit down and chill out for 5 minutes. We all fall prey to this part of us. We all resist things improving because that part of our minds simply doesn't understand the process of adaptation or betterment.

How do you tell if you have succumb to fear? It's pretty simple. If your life hasn't changed at all in the last 5 years then I'd hazzard a guess that you are playing it safe. If you aren't willing to invest a new venture then you are standing in the space of fear. Fear will always be with you and it will ALWAYS rally against change. It's not about conquering it, or mastering it. It's about understanding and loving fear to the point of where you understand that it is a necessary part of who you are but it isn't allowed to be your master. Change is a natural part of your time on the planet. When it isn't happening then something is wrong. Take control back by investing in things that you want to do. Let fear know that it's welcome to join you it's just not allowed in the driving seat!

Thank you for tuning in!
