Who else has a copper jar? Well I don't so much have a jar as I do a fish bowl that is filled with spare copper coins and pieces of silver. Whenever my wallet get's too full of coins I just empty them into the bowl and forget about it. Every year or so I end up with an extra £100 or so built up in pocket change. I used to have this old whisky jar when I was younger and I think I remember collecting about £300 from it once. For a teen, that's not bad going! What's great about it is that you don't even realise you're saving money until you look over one day and see it there. That's kind of the way I like to save these days. I find when I concentrate on building up funds I tend to stall but when it's just a little “here and there” I always end up collecting more than I thought I would. I guess part of it is “a watched pot never boils” and the other is that the more you let go, the more you create. This doesn't just apply to my copper jar. You put coins in all sorts of places all day. I love my life but I didn't get here through one sweeping change. It was hundreds and hundreds of small ones until one day I looked over and realised I was exactly where I wanted to be with the people I wanted to be with.
When you look into personal change of any sort there's all types of programs and ideas that say you change everything in a matter of days and whilst sometimes that's true, I've found that the most lasting changes happen as a result of small incremental shifts. It's the unconscious movements that seem to add to the pile the most. One small act of self care each day can mount up to a lifestyle which is centred around love. One small act of gratitude a day can lead to a deeper appreciation of where you are and allow you to elevate it as and when you see fit. I think it's the magnitude of the idea of change that stops most people in their tracks. Try, for a few weeks having a cup of tea in absolute silence. No phone, no telly, no radio in the background. Just next time you drink your cuppa look out of a window or just curl up and wander inside your own mind. That small mindfulness practice can have a huge impact long term when it comes to emotional presence. When you are truly “awake” inside your own body imagine what changes being mindful can lead to and it can all start with a quiet cuppa!
Whatever your goal or your dream is you can make it happen, you really can but you don't have to make it all happen today. You can get there one step at a time without harming your bank balance, your heart or your body. You can slowly grow into where you are meant to be by just putting that copper coin in a jar. Each day as long as you do something, even if it's a small something, you can get where you want to go. So what are you doing? What daily action are you taking towards creating the life you want for yourself? What is your self care routine? Routine! That's a good way to ensure you end up where you're going. Make that action part of your routine and in no time at all you'll see a huge impact. Remember, you don't have to do it all but you do have to do something!
