I have had a lovely bank holiday weekend and to be honest I spent pretty much most of it in front of a canvas. Art is one of my favourite meditations and I love to just sink into painting. I don't really care what I paint although illustration is what I went to uni for. I'm currently working on some character canvases and a few childrens book ideas. In front of the canvas my mind just stills in a way that it doesn't anywhere else. I concentrate, mix the paints and put them in tiny little jam jars, then I huddle over the canvas until a picture comes out. It's a lovely and strangely creative space that is also filled with silence. I love the quiet and peace it brings me. I can't think too much because I'm concentrating and I can't concentrate too much because I'm so relaxed. People often think of meditation as sat cross legged eyes closed buddhist style but meditation can be many different things. It can be watching the sea, watching the moon, watching trees swaying, anything that gives you that time with your centre is meditation. I use meditation as a form of prayer and as a platform to connect with energies around me. I love to see what floats to the surface in my mind every single day as a result of my meditations.
Being energetically sensitive I had to learn meditation at a young age. I often tell those who ask that the first skill I learned on my path as a psychic was not how to hear the spirits more clearly but in fact, how to shut them up. As you can imagine a 14 year old boy hearing voices can ring many alarm bells to family and I am SO GRATEFUL that my mother had the intuitive sense to know that it wasn't harmful even though she didn't fully understand what it was. When I was 16 she actually went out into the community to find a bunch of psychics to teach me how to use what I had. I think at one point I had about 10 adoptive “psychic mothers” who thankfully taught me everything I needed to know. I still see some of them today! It's been a wonderful journey and it is all based on the foundation of meditation. To embrace any form of spiritual understanding meditation is mandatory for cultivating inner silence. It is cummulitive in it's benefits and it's the perfect fertile ground for a connection with your intuition and your relationship with the divine.
There are so many forms of it that when people inevitably say to me, “Oh I can't meditate.” I know that they have tried the most traditional one, couldn't get quiet so gave up. I had a friend once who used to do a sort of “dance” to meditate. He would feel the energy in the room and sway kind of like a Tai Chi movements and that worked for him. I like candles and quiet. I like a cup of tea and watching the moon. I like art. I like traditional. I like all forms of meditation. Some work better for me than others and right now art is one of my favourites. It may change, the way you get there often does but as long as you are trying to get there you'll find a space. I read once that praying is talking to God but meditating is listening. Listen.
Thank you,
Big Love,
