Whilst it's true that money isn't everything we all can't pretend that our entire well being can sometimes revolve around it. We need money for food, for rent, we exchange it for goods and services and we use it to help others around us. I often hear that, “money is the root of all evil.” but, money in and of itself is inherently neutral it's how we use it that determines OUR morality not monies. Wealth is an energy, a state of being and one I am happy to say that I actively seek to be a part of every day. I am rich in love, gratitude, lifestyle, friendships, creativity and freedom. I have also created enough physical wealth to be able to express and enjoy these states without too much managing. I don't live a flambouyant lifestyle by any means, to be honest I spend most of my money on art supplies and holidays. If I had more money I would probably spend it on more of what I am already doing. If I had limitless money I think the only thing I would do would probably get a different house but even then I'm not sure I would because where I am right now is perfect for this time in my life. I feel like I am exactly where I need and want to be at this moment and maybe that is the energetic space of true wealth.
Over the years I have done readings for millionaires and people living on bare minimum. Personally I grew up in Blaen Y Maes, which for those of you not familiar with Swansea is a less-than-affluent area. Survival mentality was a big part of my upbringing which primarily left me with a shortage based mindset. I was constantly worried about running out of resources. Because of that worry I kept creating and recreating scenarios in my life where that worry could play itself out. It took years for me to relax, unwind and truly see what wealth is. It's a state of being more than it is a bank balance. The second I started to see wealth as a complex tapestry rather than a number on my bank account strange things started to happen. I got happier, I stopped worrying as much and weirdly enough because I was generally less stressed my money situation improved. I'm not trying to say that money isn't important in your life and “all you need is love” because let's be honest last time I checked Tesco's doesn't accept love at the check outs. It's just that money is only a part of an overall picture of wealth.
We live in a rich part of the world. For a tiny island on the globe we do well to feed, clothe and house most of our population. Of course we have problems but on the whole we are doing good. I think we need to celebrate that more. It's built into our culture and our genetics to seek out the worst in a situation. It's part of our survival mentality and while it is sometimes necessary we are grossly out of balance with it. We seem to be in a pattern of attacking everything, everywhere at all times. It's a reactive cycle and it's built out of the very idea I grew up in, that there is not enough to go around. The truth is that there is plenty. If everything on the planet was equally distributed there would be plenty to go around but survival mentality always eventually gives birth to greed, in that moment we lose our minds and our centres. This can be corrected if we widened our view on wealth. When we are sick, our health is more important than our bank balance, when someone we love is about to leave the planet time becomes the essence of wealth. It is a huge idea and one too complex to go through properly in one blog post but what I can do here and now is give you is something I stumbled across a while ago. Wealth is something you bring to your life not something you acquire from it.
Thank you,
